Boshi Botanicals Celebrates First Anniversary with Scent Bar Launch

Anniversary ceremony for Memphis’ zero-waste pioneer set for November 1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (October 28, 2024) – Memphis's premier zero-waste refill store, Boshi Botanicals, is excited to mark its first anniversary on November 1, 2024. As the store embarks on its second year of operation, it will introduce a new essential oil scent bar and commemorate the occasion with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. The innovative scent bar enables customers to purchase essential oils by the ounce, craft personalized blends, and enhance unscented products such as body oil, linen spray, shampoo, and bubble bath.

The ceremonial ribbon cutting is scheduled for November 1, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. CST, followed by an anniversary celebration. The local community is warmly invited to participate in the festivities, which will feature local maker pop-ups, cake from Lulu’s Bakery, and an opportunity to try out the new scent bar.

Reflecting on the store's progress over the past year, Becky Beloin, Founder and CEO of Boshi Botanicals, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received from the Memphis community. “We are proud of how far we’ve come in the last 12 months and are thrilled with the response we’ve had from Memphis. By refilling from our bulk products, bringing their own bottles or bags, and adopting low-waste alternatives like shampoo bars and dryer balls, Memphians have replaced, repurposed, or avoided approximately 4,000 single-use plastic items.”

When broken out, the conscious purchases made by Boshi Botanicals customers paint a positive picture for sustainability. This includes:

  • Customers bringing their own bags or bottles over 1,200 times;
  • Customers swapping out dryer sheets with dryer balls, preventing more than 21,000 dryer sheets from heading to the landfill in the past year;
  • Customers replacing 425 shampoo and conditioner bottles with solid bars; and
  • Customers diverting more than 500 single-use razors from the landfill with the purchase of Leaf Shave razors and dermaplaners.

Since its establishment in 2023, Boshi Botanicals has broadened its product range, initiated educational classes, forged partnerships with local and state-wide sustainability-focused organizations, and advocated for waste reduction practices.

"At Clean Memphis, we celebrate Boshi Botanicals' dedication to reducing single-use plastics,” said JP Miller, Community Engagement Manager for Clean Memphis. “Their refill model is a practical and impactful way to cut down on waste and support a circular economy."

Zero-waste stores are growing in popularity across the state as well as across the country as consumers look for ways to reduce their environmental footprint. According to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Tennesseans produce nearly 32% more waste per person per day than the national average.

“The Office of Sustainable Practices is committed to providing educational resources and tools, such as the Zero Waste TN program, to empower citizens in their waste reduction efforts,” said Matt Taylor, Deputy Director Office of Sustainable Practices, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. “Zero waste stores and refilleries are crucial to supporting Tennessee's sustainability initiatives and helping residents achieve their zero waste goals. By providing convenient access to reusable and refillable products, these businesses play a vital role in minimizing waste, conserving resources, and fostering a healthier environment.”

At Boshi Botanicals, every product, whether curated by Becky or sourced from eco-friendly collaborators, upholds stringent standards of sustainability and purity. Free from sulfates, phthalates, parabens, and other harmful substances, the store's offerings prioritize the well-being of individuals and the environment. Becky remains committed to maintaining the integrity of her brands by ensuring they are both people and planet-friendly.
