Boshi Botanicals and Compost Fairy Collaborate to Encourage Residential Composting
Boshi Botanicals to Offer Starter Kits and Subscriptions for Compost Fairy

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Aug. 5, 2024) – Boshi Botanicals, Memphis’s first zero-waste store, and The Compost Fairy, LLC, a residential and commercial compost company, are teaming up to offer compost solutions for Boshi Botanicals customers. Starting Aug. 10, 2024 Boshi Botanicals will offer Compost Fairy compost buckets and subscriptions in-store.

The residential composting program available for subscription right now is the Community Drop Off model. New customers receive two buckets with tight fitting lids, upcycled from local restaurants, for collecting foodwaste and other compostable material at home. Whenever you’re ready to empty the buckets just stop by our Community Drop location. The subscription includes infinite drop-offs and compost back twice a year.

“Our goal at Boshi Botanicals is to be a centralized resource where people can find solutions and connect with other local organizations that help them reduce waste,” said Becky Beloin, Founder and CEO of Boshi Botanicals. “We are proud to partner with Compost Fairy to help educate Memphians about the negative impacts of food waste and to provide simple solutions that can help our city grow greener and cleaner.”

In the U.S., according to EPA.gov, food is the single most common material sent to landfills. Alone it equates to about 24% of municipal solid waste. When combined with yard trimmings, wood and paper products, these organic materials make up more than 51% of municipal solid waste in landfills. Further, the EPA estimates wasted food is responsible for 58% of landfill methane emissions.

“The Compost Fairy strives to be a stepping stone on the path to a more circular, sustainable economy. We are like a goalie before the landfill, trying to capture and divert compostable materials so that instead of becoming waste forever it can become what it wants to be: regenerative compost,” said Patrick Gridley of The Compost Fairy, LLC. “But the goalie is just the last line of defense. An essential element of sustainability is wasting as little as possible in the first place. At Boshi Botanicals they work hard to reduce waste, both in store and with the products that customers bring home.”

The Compost Fairy will pop-up at Boshi Botanicals on Aug. 10 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. to talk about their compost program and why it is so important to divert food from the landfill into rich, usable soil. The public is invited to come, learn more about the program and bring a bucket home to start composting.

Boshi Botanicals opened in November 2023, bringing Memphis its first store dedicated to low- and zero-waste living. Offering cleaning, body, and beauty products in bulk, Boshi Botanicals encourages customers to bring a jar and to fill up with as much product as they care for. Boshi Botanicals also offers a line of soap and bath products crafted in-house from organic and natural ingredients. In addition, the store carries low-waste products from local makers and reusable household goods, including unpaper towels, beeswax wraps, dryer balls and much more.

At The Compost Fairy, we believe in the power of composting to transform communities and combat climate change. Our mission is to empower individuals and businesses in Memphis to make a tangible difference in the environment, one bucket at a time. By providing convenient and accessible composting services, we aim to divert food waste from landfills, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enrich local soil. We are dedicated to fostering a culture of sustainability and environmental stewardship. Together, we can create a greener, healthier future for all.
